Men's Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Burlington

Leaking after prostate surgery. Pain that won't let up. Bladder urgency that keeps you planning your day around the nearest washroom. These are real problems, and they respond well to treatment.

I provide private, one-on-one pelvic floor rehabilitation for men in Burlington. Sessions are calm, respectful, and focused on getting you back to your life.

Why men put this off (and why they shouldn't)

Most men are told that leakage after prostate surgery is “normal” and will improve on its own. For some, it does. For many, it doesn't — or it improves only partially, and they spend months managing pads and avoiding activities they used to enjoy.

Pelvic physiotherapy is the most evidence-supported conservative treatment for post-prostatectomy incontinence. Starting before surgery (prehabilitation) and continuing after leads to faster recovery and better long-term outcomes.

The same applies to chronic pelvic pain. Many men live with it for years before learning that the pelvic floor muscles are involved and that targeted treatment exists.

Conditions I treat

Each treatment plan is built around your specific symptoms, goals, and comfort level.

Post-Prostate Surgery Recovery

After prostatectomy, many men experience urinary leakage. Pelvic floor rehabilitation before and after surgery helps restore bladder control faster and more completely.

Urinary Incontinence

Leakage during exercise, coughing, or daily activities is common but treatable. Targeted pelvic floor retraining builds the strength and coordination needed for reliable control.

Chronic Pelvic Pain

Persistent pain in the pelvis, groin, or perineum often involves tight or overactive pelvic floor muscles. Treatment focuses on releasing tension, restoring normal muscle function, and reducing pain.

Post-Radiation Rehabilitation

Radiation therapy for prostate cancer can affect bladder and bowel function. Physiotherapy helps manage these changes and supports recovery.

Bladder Urgency and Frequency

Feeling the need to urinate frequently or urgently can disrupt your day. Bladder retraining combined with pelvic floor work helps you regain control.

Bowel Dysfunction

Constipation, incomplete emptying, and fecal urgency are more common than most men realize. Pelvic physiotherapy addresses the muscle coordination behind these issues.

Common questions about men's pelvic physiotherapy

Is pelvic physiotherapy different for men?+

The core principles are the same, but the anatomy and conditions are different. Treatment is tailored to male-specific concerns like post-prostate surgery recovery, erectile rehabilitation, and chronic pelvic pain patterns common in men.

When should I start if I have prostate surgery scheduled?+

Ideally, 4 to 6 weeks before surgery. Pre-surgical pelvic floor training (called prehabilitation) helps you recover bladder control faster after the procedure. If your surgery has already happened, starting sooner is still better than waiting.

What does a session involve?+

We start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms and goals. Assessment may include external evaluation of pelvic floor muscle function. Internal assessment is always optional and only performed with your full consent. Treatment includes targeted exercises, manual therapy, and a clear home program.

How many sessions will I need?+

It depends on your condition and goals. Many men notice meaningful improvement within 4 to 6 sessions. Post-surgical recovery typically involves 8 to 12 sessions over several months.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?+

No referral is required. You can book directly. Many men are referred by their urologist or surgeon, but self-referral is welcome.

Is this covered by insurance?+

Yes. Pelvic physiotherapy is billed as physiotherapy and is covered by most extended health plans. Direct billing is available so you pay nothing out of pocket at the time of your visit.

You do not have to manage this alone

Whether you are preparing for surgery, recovering from it, or dealing with symptoms that have gone on too long — pelvic physiotherapy can help. Book a private assessment and we will take it from there.

No referral required. Direct billing available.
